Our shop started life as ‘F. Warren Electrical’ in the 1920s – just as electricity started to be rolled out more widely to homes across the country. It was an exciting and forward thinking time. By the end of the 1930s two thirds of UK homes were lit by electricity.
Selling electrical goods, from hoovers and toasters to washing machines and lighting, F. Warren Electrical was pioneering in bringing new technologies and appliances to homes across the wider North East.
In 1958, local businessman and electrical engineer Dennis Hughes bought F. Warren Electrical. Building on the already well-established business, Dennis developed its electrical contractor offering, installing and bringing electricity to many of the local farms and homes across Teesdale and Weardale.
By 1980 Dennis’ daughter, Brenda, joined the family business and later took the helm of Warrens Lighting Ltd as we know it today. While Warren Electrical Ltd, now under new ownership, continues as an electrical contractor and still works closely with us on many exciting lighting projects.
Having started working in the shop at just 18, Brenda is a bone fide lighting expert. Over the years she has carefully selected a hand-picked supplier list and continues to curate an ever-evolving and eclectic range of lighting and homeware to suit a multitude of tastes, styles and ages.Today, Warrens Lighting is a trusted source of inspiration and guidance – you can see some of our latest projects here.
